Pears, Pears Pears!

We were richly blessed when a friend called & said She has pears on her trees she doesn’t want. Of course we would take them! I called my brothers family & asked if they would like some & said they need to help pick them if they do. So one nice crisp eve, Jo & Myself along with a friend & my brother & 2 of his children piled into our truck & headed out. It was such a blessing to have the guys along to do the high picking. Since my hubby (Jo) is 6′ 2″ it was really nice :). Although later i wasn’t sure if it was such a blessing. I had taken containers along & thought we would fill those & then stop. Well we filled those & they thought we are picking them anyway why stop.(uh um they go to work & we do the Pears) So they kept picking those pears. Well we got around 6 bushels of pears. We took them home & the fun began….. day 1 pears, day 2 pears day 3 well you get the drift :). We made pear honey (a recipe i got from my friend) oh yum that was a hit with our families, then we did canned pears, and pear sauce & pear butter. Oh put that on top of fresh homemade bread & you have a treat for sure! Yum…. So i thought i would share my recipe i mixed & matched to come up with one i thought i would like. Since you put it in a crock pot its so simple.Image

Pear Butter

12 Cups pear sauce (cooked & blended pears)

5 1/2 cups sugar

3 vanilla beans cut open & insides removed (this is what you use)

2 Tbs vanilla extract

2 Tbs cinnamon

Juice of 2 lemons

Put into a crock pot & turn on low & let simmer for about 14-15 hours. (go to bed & let your crock pot do the work:) )

put into jars & cold pack for 10 min. Enjoy!

Any way needless to say we were very tired of doing pears & were getting a wee bit whiny about it by the end, But we have such a bounty to use through out this next winter.  Thanks Tabitha!
